Handmade by Amazon: The Best New Place to Buy Art Work?

The Pros & Cons of the Handmade Shopping Experience

Did you know Amazon now has a handmade section!?

I recently discovered this section of Amazon myself, and I am ready to shop!

They have 8 categories listed on their home page. The 8 sections are Jewelry, Home & Kitchen, Handbags & Totes, Beauty & Grooming, Pet Supplies, Stationery & Party, Clothing Shoes & Accessories, and Toys & Games.

I immediately went to the decorations subsection of the Stationery & Party Supplies category. There is a lot of variety of theme specific items that are similar to what you'd find on Etsy.

My favorite section of all was the Prints section under the Home & Kitchen category. I found most of the prints to be reasonably priced, and good quality.

There seems to be a print for everyone!

There are fun prints:

Pop culture prints:

$12.00 on Amazon

Fanciful/Architectural prints:

And prints from my new favorite Amazon seller:

The Pros:

  • It's Amazon! You still get the easy access to reviews, and the safety of shopping with an established website
  • You get the personal feel of seeing who you are supporting. On the right hand side of the screen, you will see a picture of the store owner, or the avatar/store photo they have chosen, their store name, and possibly where they are located. You can click on their picture to go to their seller site on Amazon to see what other work they have done.

The Cons:

  • As is common with homemade items, they aren't always reviewed very often. So you might have to search for a while to find a popular store with enough reviews to feel comfortable shopping from them.
  • Not every seller has filled out their seller profile, so you don't get much information about the store owner.
